A Christmas Tree Tradition?

Nothing is as special as going out and cutting down your own Christmas Tree. Some folks search the woods all year looking for that perfect tree. When I was young (many, many, years ago), my dad and I would mark a tree in the summer with a red ribbon and come back and get it just before Christmas. One year we cut down a huge tree that looked like the top would be perfect for our Christmas tree. It wasn't. The second best way to cut your own tree is to visit a tree farm. Look, I think I see the one I want.

When our own kids got old enough we'd make sure they picked out the trees. They always seemed to pick trees that were less then perfect and we never had the heart to get a different tree. Some of those trees were really pretty bad. They made great topics of conversation and we had fun laughing and joking about our Charlie Brown tree. It has become important to find a tree with that Charlie Brown quality. Perfect trees can be dull and boring. Tell me, is this how traditions begin?

I've decorated this tree just for you.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
